In April 2015, KGHM commissioned a €1.8 million upgrade to the wastewater treatment facility at its Cedynia copper wire rod plant. The extensive modernisation separates the treatment processes for sanitary waste from the combined treatment of industrial waste and rainwater. In order to reduce water consumption, a new reservoir now stores part of the rainwater collected from the plant site.
The Cedynia plant produces about 100,000 m3/year of wastewater. As a result of this modernisation investment, water that meets the stringent requirements of EU’s Directive on Best Available Techniques (BAT) can be safely discharged into the Odra River.
